Wow, today has been incredibly busy! But before we get ahead of ourselves, I figured I should introduce myself!
I’m Maki Yamazaki and I’m one of the four editors on the Paper Cloud zine team! Our roles are fairly flexible when it comes to making the zine, but each of us is involved with editorial decision-making.
I’ll be doing a number of things for zine, including (but totally not limited to):
- Planning and implementing the layout - Doodles - Illustrations - Various pages within the zine itself - The Editor’s foreword for Vol. 1, Issue 1 - Running around like a caffeine-infused penguin - Team-spirit pepper master - Printing the outer covers and producing the master printouts - Sending out emails for interviews
Some of these roles I’ll be sharing (either on purpose or by coincidence).
One thing I will be solely in charge of will be this website (running tumblr). Others from the zine might do posts here from time to time, but I basically hold the responsibility to keep this puppy running. Any questions submitted here will go directly to myself. If you’d like to contact all four of us, you can reach us via email on:
Team at paper-cloud dot co dot uk.
And speaking of which, the fabulous Ariel Silvera will be running our Twitter account (@papercloudzine). So if you’re more of a twitter user, you’ll want to get the scoop over at https://twitter.com/papercloudzine where I’m sure she’ll be happy to answer any questions and generally spout paper-cloud-related news to you!
Personally, I’m a huge fan of using Tumblr and don’t spend a great deal of time with twitter. I can be a bit verbose, sometimes. Ariel, being our copy-editor, is far more graceful with 140 character passages (pun may or may not have been intended).
A little about my previous experience:
Although I’ve never made a zine before, I’ve wanted to for a long, long time. I love reading really interesting zines of all varieties, although I find large, text-intensive ones a little hard on these poor dyslexic eyes.
I’d like to claim that making this zine was my idea but, to be honest, most of us (if not all) had wanted to make a zine for a while. It was on the tip of everyones tongue. I just gave it a name:
"The Paper Cloud"
I’ll probably write about what the title means to me in the editors’ foreword in our first issue.
I have, however, written for and been the editor of magazines in days gone by. Most of my time these days is spent making music and comics (try here & here). Occasionally, I do games development. Sometimes, I do other things too, like writing and blogging, but if it’s something creative I can do, I generally like to do it. I’m quite insatiable, like that… Organising and illustration seem to come quite naturally to me.
Among my passions are music, social justice, comics & graphic novels, films, wearing my glasses, sci-fi, peppermint & rooibos tea, languages, hot sake, polishing things, cooking & extreme bedroom sports (I’m especially excellent at the 15-hour sleep marathon).
And speaking of marathons, I’m really looking forward to all the hard work and fun we’ll have over the next month in preparation for Issue #1!
